Masters of the 6 Fundamental Skills to run Innovation Projects
A certified Innovation Engineering Green Belt understands the fundamentals of Innovation Engineering as has mastered the 6 skills necessary to run an innovation project.
The training they go through is Graduate School level content and pace. It’s part of the body of knowledge taught as part of University Undergraduate Minor & Graduate School Certificate programs. The training starts with the candidates individually watching educational videos in a digital class, participating in an intensive One day Innovation Workshop. The certification program continues with the Green Belt candidates running an innovation project under the advisement and coaching of a Certified Innovation Engineering Black Belt.

Innovation Engineering Green Belt Certification Process
STEP 1:

DIGITAL CLASS. Candidates watch a few web videos on the core curriculum of Innovation Engineering skills and sub-skills plus interactive quizzes that feed forward what students have learned and not learned to the instructor so that adaptations can be made in the lab class. The videos and quizzes are a prerequisite for the next step.

STEP 2:

The Innovation Workshop is one compressed day of both both LAB CLASSES that drive deeper understanding through case study examples. And APPLICATION CLASSES where you begin the process of applying the learning to your company situation. The Innovation Engineering Workshops include:
CREATE: Here you learn the new mindset that creates a 6x increase in the number of high quality ideas versus classic “brainstorming.” It features a special focus on how to enable active learning from customer insights, marketplace benchmarking, technology and future mining. And, how to leverage a collaboration mindset to create an exponential increase in effectiveness. COMMUNICATE: This workshop exposes you to the new “outside in” thinking approach that doubles your odds of success by turning sales and marketing into a customer pull system. It also provides a simple way for defining ideas so that everyone - from front line worker to the CEO can speak the same language. COMMERCIALIZE: This workshop is a transformation in how to reduce innovation risk. Instead of attempting to “plan, study and study away risk” you learn the new Fail FAST Fail CHEAP™ approach. It’s a modern and accelerated version of the classic Deming learning cycle of “Plan, Do, Study, Act” applied to innovation. |
STEP 3:

EXPERIENCE CLASS. These are real world, real life challenges. They are used to bring the learning to life. Candidates must run a project as a project leader and receive coaching from a Certified Innovation Engineering Black Belt. Candidates must then write a REFLECTION on their experience to document their learning.
